Laboratory Recognition Programme

The laboratories listed in SFA’s Laboratory Recognition Programme (LRP) are recognised for their competency to perform food safety testing within their respective scope of recognition.

Private laboratories must apply to SFA to be included in the LRP.

Contents in this page

What is the purpose of the LRP?

SFA developed the LRP to establish a network of accredited private laboratories to support the industry's food safety testing needs.

The programme also enables SFA to have oversight of the capability and capacity of recognised laboratories in Singapore to provide food safety testing services.

Who can apply for the LRP?

All applicants intending to join the LRP must fulfill the following requirements which minimally include:

  • having local testing facilities to support LRP
  • being accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council or any accreditation body under the ILAC mutual recognition arrangements (MRA) to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard

Recognition will only be granted to laboratories that meet the LRP requirements upon SFA’s assessment and verification.

Why should your laboratory be recognised under the LRP?

All laboratories recognised under the LRP is officially recognised and validated to be competent in providing food safety testing.

Being recognised as a LRP laboratory will enable you to offer your services to food companies seeking recognised laboratories for in-house quality testing and/or testing for application of export certificates. You can also support SFA’s food testing needs by participating in SFA’s outsourcing tenders.

You will be able to use the LRP Certification Mark below to promote and market your services.

What are the laboratory services offered by LRP laboratories?

You can refer to the list of testing services offered by recognised laboratories.

How to apply for the LRP?

The steps below outline the general application process:

StepDescription
1Review the LRP Terms & Conditions from the Food Safety Management Information System (FSMIS).
2Submit your application details together with the scope of application spreadsheet and supporting documents via the FSMIS.
3SFA reviews the submitted application.
4SFA conducts on-site verification check at the applicant laboratory’s premise for new and renewal applications. Verification checks for a change of scope application may also be conducted, if necessary.
5SFA grants recognition/renewal of LRP status or the change of scope of LRP once SFA has verified that the applicant laboratory meets the necessary requirements.

In general, it takes about 4 months from the receipt of an application for any laboratory seeking to be recognised as a LRP laboratory. The time frame for processing an application may vary depending on factors such as:

  • applicant laboratory's degree of compliance with SFA's requirements
  • complexity of scope of recognition submitted by the applicant laboratory
  • further clarifications on the application by SFA where necessary
